| Train up a child Contributer Writer: Ann Rhodes |
As an educator, I am blessed with the opportunity of watching children grow. Besides respecting elders, discipline among young people is very important. Discipline starts at home. If discipline is taught at home, then children will not have a hard time getting along with adults who have authority. It amazes me of how many children who don’t have any discipline from home. Often times, parents are having a difficult time with their own children. If a child doesn’t have discipline as a toddler and a youngster, then they tend to stray away with the wrong crowd and get into a lot of trouble as they get older. Although teenagers have the mind set of “knowing it all”, their home training actually makes them rethink the way they should go in life. They often have the knowledge about situation, but lack the wisdom of when to do something and when not to do something. Proverbs 22:6 states “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when is old he will not depart from it.” This simply means that if you have help encourage and instill the wisdom of Christ in your child, no matter where your child heads in life, he will not part from the way he was raised up. He will always come back to what he learned in life.
